About the Artist

Inspired by a love of nature and a lifetime of working with wood, Tom Park began creating wood sculptures when he retired in 1997 after 38 years as a teacher and principal. Tom's work features decorative songbirds, shorebirds, raptors, waterfowl and decoys.  Since 1998 he has entered his work in competitions across Western Canada. His sculptures have earned dozens of awards and trophies including Best in Show, People’s Choice and Carvers’ Choice awards. Tom is often asked to conduct seminars and workshops for beginning and experienced artists. He has done workshops in all four western Provinces. He also frequently judges at carving shows across Western Canada.

In 2009 Tom began writing instructional articles for Wildfowl Carving Magazine, the leading magazine for wildfowl artists in North America. On seven occasions his art has been featured on the magazine’s cover. His work has also appeared several times in Competition Magazine, an annual publication that features the best works from carving competitions across North America.

Tom is past chair of the Board of Prairie Canada Carving Association, a group that promotes the art of wood sculpture and organizes one of the most successful carving shows and competitions in Canada.

Tom lives in Winnipeg with his wife Dorynne. When not carving or teaching, Tom spends his time relaxing at the cottage.
